Urbanisation Villas · Wet Rooms · Pool Access

Disability Living La Nucía

Whole-home adaptations for La Nucía's inland-hillside villas: wet rooms, ramps, rails, kitchens and safer pool access, planned room by room.

La Nucía sits a little inland and a little higher than the coast, and its housing reflects that. Much of it is villas in urbanisations on sloping ground, with more space than a seafront flat: several bedrooms, a terrace, often a garden and a pool. That space is a real advantage when a home needs adapting, because there is usually room to do things properly.

A villa also means more to look after. Level changes between rooms, a long terrace, steps to the garden, a pool with steep steps and a bathroom at the far end of the house all add up. The right approach is to look at the whole property and decide what order to tackle it in, rather than one room at a time with no plan.

Dragon Reforms has worked across the north Costa Blanca since 1999, and our work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation. The quotation itself is free.

Using the space

Planning a Villa Around One Level

A common request in La Nucía is to make the ground floor work as a complete home, so that stairs are not needed day to day. That might mean turning a bedroom or a study into the main sleeping room and converting a bathroom beside it into a spacious wet room with a shower seat and rails.

Because villa bathrooms are often larger than apartment ones, we can offer more: a fully level shower floor, space to turn a wheelchair, a wall-hung toilet with clear room on one side and a basin that can be reached from a seat. If there is no suitable bathroom next to the bedroom, we can look at adding one by borrowing space from a neighbouring room.

Doorways between the main rooms are checked at the same time. Widening a few of them and removing awkward thresholds can open up the whole floor.

Pool and terrace

Safer Pools and Outdoor Areas

The pool is the centre of many La Nucía homes, and for some people it is the best exercise available. A ramp into the water, with handrails on both sides, lets a person walk in gradually rather than negotiating steep steps. Where the pool already has steps, we can add rails and a grippier finish on the treads.

The surround is just as important. Smooth tiles by a pool are very slippery when wet, and a fall onto hard paving is a serious one. We can lay slip-resistant surfaces, even out any changes in level and make sure that water runs away from where you walk.

Terraces and garden paths on a sloping plot get the same treatment: firm, even surfaces, gentle gradients and a rail wherever there is a drop or a run of steps.

Heart of the home

A Kitchen That Works From a Seat

Villa kitchens tend to be big enough to allow a proper adaptation. We can lower a section of worktop with open space underneath, fit deep drawers where there were low cupboards, bring wall storage down to a reachable height and put the hob and sink where they can be used safely from a wheelchair or a stool.

If the kitchen is shared by the whole family, we keep part of it at standard height, so everyone can cook together. The floor should grip when wet but wipe clean easily.

Lighting and sockets are reviewed at the same time, because a well-adapted kitchen that is badly lit still causes accidents.

How it works

How a Disability Living Job in La Nucía Works

We spend time at the villa walking through the property with you, from the drive to the pool, talking about what you do each day and what is getting harder. Larger homes often need a phased plan, and we are happy to set one out in the quotation, which is free, so you can tackle the most pressing areas first.

Many of our La Nucía clients are away for part of the year, so we can fit work into the months you are not there, and show you the finished result when you return. Everything is checked with you before we hand over.

Questions

Disability Living La Nucía — Common Questions

Can a La Nucía villa be adapted to work on one floor?

Usually, yes. We convert a ground-floor room to a bedroom, make the bathroom next to it fully accessible, and widen doors where needed so you can live comfortably without using the stairs.

Can you add a ramp into a swimming pool?

In many cases we can, subject to the shape and depth of the pool and the space around it. Where a ramp is not possible, rails and non-slip steps can still make the pool safer.

Do you do wet rooms in La Nucía villas?

Yes. Wet rooms suit villas well because there is usually enough floor space. We waterproof the room as a sealed system before tiling and test it.

Can you work while we are away from La Nucía for part of the year?

Yes. We can schedule the work for when you are away, keep you updated, and go through the finished job with you when you return.
