Solar Panels & EV Chargers Costa Blanca

Dragon Reforms fits solar panels, battery backup and home EV chargers for houses, villas and apartments on the north Costa Blanca. Our own electricians survey the property, explain what suits it, and put the work in writing before anything is ordered.

The coast has long, bright summers and a great deal of air conditioning, so it is no surprise that owners ask about generating their own power and charging a car at home. Both are electrical jobs first and foremost, and both depend on the building they are going into rather than on a catalogue.

Dragon Reforms has been working on this coast since 1999, and the electrics team that fits your solar system or wallbox is the same team that rewires houses, replaces fuse boards and runs the circuits for air conditioning. That matters, because a new solar array or charger puts fresh demands on the board behind it, and someone has to look at the whole picture.

We do not start with a product. We start with a visit: where the roof or terrace faces, what shades it, how the cables could travel, what your board and supply look like, and how you actually use the house. A holiday apartment used six weeks a year and a villa lived in every day are different problems, and we say so plainly.

You may be abroad for much of the year. That is a normal situation for us. We photograph the roof, the board and the garage, send them with notes, hold calls to talk the options through, and keep you updated by phone while the work goes ahead.

What is included

What You Get With Our Solar and Charger Service

Power work goes wrong when nobody looks at the whole installation. These are the things we take on for every job.

📋Survey and written quotationWe visit, measure up and check the roof, board and supply. The quotation is free and sets out the scope in writing.
☀️Honest system sizingWe size the system to the home's use and the space available, and tell you plainly if a smaller or different set-up fits better.
🔌Home charger installationA wallbox fitted where you park, with a dedicated cable run and protection suited to the location and the weather.
🔋Battery and backup optionsWhere storage makes sense for how you live, we explain what it does, what it needs and where it can be housed.
⚡Fuse board upgradesIf your board cannot safely take the new load, we upgrade it as part of the job rather than leaving a weak link.
🧰Paperwork explainedWe tell you at survey what paperwork the installation is likely to involve, and what to ask of the town hall or your supplier.

Solar panels

How a Solar Installation Is Planned

A good system starts on the roof and ends at the board, and everything between matters.

We begin by looking at the space you have. The direction a roof or terrace faces, its pitch, the condition of the tiles or surface, and anything casting shade at different hours all influence how many panels fit and how well they work. A chimney, a neighbouring building or a tall tree can matter more than the panels themselves.

Next comes the route for the cable. On a villa it may run down through a service duct or along a wall to the board; in an apartment block it may need to cross communal areas, which brings in the community. We plan this before ordering anything, so there are no surprises once the scaffold is up.

The size of the system depends on how the home is used, not on how big a roof you have. We discuss your daytime use, your air conditioning and how many months you are resident, and we make no promise about savings or payback. You get a clear description of what would be fitted and why.

EV charging

Fitting a Charger Where You Actually Park

A wallbox is a heavy, continuous load, and the cable behind it is as important as the unit.

Most people want the charger by the car: in a garage, under a carport, on a driveway wall or in a parking bay. Each place brings its own questions about the distance back to the board, whether the cable must run outdoors, and how the unit is protected from sun, rain and sea air.

A car left charging for hours draws power steadily, unlike a kettle or an oven, and your existing circuits may not be sized for it. We check the supply and the board and we run a dedicated circuit, so the charger is not sharing a line with something it should not be sharing with.

If you live in an apartment block, the parking is often communal, and the answer may involve the community of owners as well as the electrics. We say what to raise and with whom, and we can look at the garage and the route before you take it further.

Fuse boards

The Board Behind the Panels and the Charger

New generation and new charging both land on your consumer unit.

Older boards on this coast are common, particularly in homes that have been extended or rented out over the years. Adding solar or a charger to a tired board is something we would rather not do, so if the board is not up to it, we say so and quote for the upgrade alongside.

Upgrading the board can also be a good moment to tidy circuits, label what is on each one and separate heavy loads such as air conditioning and water heating. It is rarely the exciting part of the job, but it is usually the part that decides whether everything else works properly.

If your home has been rewired in the past, we check what was done rather than assuming. Where the existing work is sound, we leave it alone. Where it is not, we explain why and show you, with photographs if you are away from the property.

Batteries

Battery Backup and Smart Power

Storage can suit some homes very well and others not at all.

A battery lets a home hold some of the power its panels produce and use it later, and in some set-ups it can keep chosen circuits running during an outage. Whether it makes sense depends on how you live: a family at home in the evening has a different need from a rental that stands empty between guests.

A battery needs a suitable place. It wants shade, ventilation, a sound wall or floor and a sensible cable route, and heat is a real consideration here. We inspect whatever space you have in mind and tell you honestly whether it will do.

We can also look at smaller extras around the house, such as power for gates, security equipment and smart-home controls, so those are planned into the board rather than added later as an afterthought. These are optional, and we will not push them.

Owners abroad

Managing the Work From Another Country

Many of our customers are not here when the work happens, and we are used to that.

We can survey with you on a video call, supplement it with pictures of the roof, board and garage, and agree the scope before you travel. If you are visiting soon, we can arrange the survey for the days you are here, and if you are not, we manage it remotely.

While work is under way we send photos and short updates by phone, so you see the panels going on, the cable routes and the finished board without being on site. Where access is needed, keys can be arranged for the duration of the job.

At the end we explain what was fitted, how to read the system, and what to do if something looks wrong. A written summary of the installation goes with it, so you, a future buyer or another tradesperson can see what is in the house.

Before you hire

Questions to Ask Any Solar or Charger Installer

A few direct questions will tell you a lot about who you are dealing with.

  • Will someone visit the property and look at the roof, board and supply before quoting, rather than quoting from a photograph alone?
  • Is the quotation written, itemised and clear about exactly what is and is not included?
  • Who will carry out the electrical work, and are they the firm's own team rather than unknown subcontractors?
  • What will they do about the existing fuse board if it is not suited to the new load?
  • How will the cable be routed, and will any chasing, drilling or visible conduit be involved?
  • What paperwork does the installation involve, and who deals with it?
  • What happens if there is a fault after installation, and how do you contact them?
  • Are you being offered a system sized to your use, or simply the biggest one that fits?

Be wary of anyone who promises specific savings, skips the survey or cannot explain why they chose a particular size. A sound installer is comfortable saying what a system will not do, as well as what it will.

Questions

Solar Panels & EV Chargers Costa Blanca — Common Questions

How do I know whether solar panels suit my home?

It depends on your roof or terrace space, its orientation, any shading, and how much power you use and when. We survey the property and give an honest view, including telling you when a smaller system or no system would be sensible.

Can you fit an EV charger in an apartment garage?

Often it is possible, but communal garages usually involve the community of owners as well as the electrics. We look at the garage, the route to the board and your supply, and say what should go to the community before work begins.

Do I need a new fuse board?

Not always. We check the existing board, its condition and its capacity for the extra load. If it can safely take the new circuits we leave it; if not, we explain why and include the upgrade in the written quotation.

Will you tell me how much I will save?

No. Savings depend on how you use power, your supply arrangements and many things outside our control, so we do not promise figures. We describe what would be fitted, what it can do and what its limits are.

What paperwork is involved?

Installations of this kind can involve paperwork with the town hall, your electricity supplier or your community. We explain at survey what is likely to be needed in your case, though the authorities decide, and we can guide you through the steps.

Can you add a battery to an existing solar system?

Sometimes. It depends on what is already installed, how it is wired and where a battery could be housed. We inspect the existing system first and tell you honestly whether adding storage is practical or whether another route suits better.

Can the work be organised if I live abroad?

Yes. We survey with photographs and video calls, send written quotations by email, keep you updated by phone during the work, and arrange keys if needed. Many of our solar and charger customers are not on the coast when we fit.
