Fitted Wardrobes Costa Blanca

Dragon Reforms designs, builds and fits wardrobes to the exact walls of your home, from a bedroom run of sliding doors to a full dressing room. Our own carpentry team measures, makes and fits, and the work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.

A fitted wardrobe earns its place by using space that loose furniture wastes. It rises to the ceiling, closes the gap to the side wall, and wraps around a chimney breast or a window reveal. Done well it looks like part of the architecture. Done badly it leaves dust-catching gaps, doors that rub and shelves that sag.

Many homes on this coast already have built-in wardrobes, the armarios empotrados that Spanish apartments are known for. They are often sound in structure but tired in finish, awkward inside or simply the wrong size for how the family lives now. We can keep the carcass and renew the doors and interior, or take everything out and start again.

Our carpenters work from a proper measured survey, not a rough sketch. Walls here are seldom perfectly straight or plumb, floors are often tiled with a slight fall, and ceilings vary from one end of a room to the other. We allow for all of it so the finished unit sits tight and the doors run true.

Dragon Reforms has renovated homes on the north Costa Blanca since 1999. We speak English and Spanish, send photographs and short videos if you are away, and give you a written quotation before anything begins. The quotation is free, and wardrobes can be a project on their own or part of a wider reform.

What is included

What You Get With a Fitted Wardrobe

A wardrobe is only as good as the survey, the materials and the fitting behind it, so these are the parts we take responsibility for.

📐Measured surveyWe visit, measure every wall, ceiling height and floor level, and talk through how you use the space before we draw anything up.
📝Written free quotationYou receive the layout, doors, finishes and fitting described in writing, so you know exactly what is being built before work starts.
🪵Made by our carpentersOur in-house carpentry team builds and fits the unit, so the person who measured is answerable for how it turns out.
🚪Doors that suit the roomSliding, hinged or a mix, in the finish and handle style you choose, with runners and hinges matched to the weight of the door.
🧺Planned interiorsHanging heights, shelves, drawers, shoe storage and top boxes are set out for your own clothes rather than a standard catalogue layout.
✨A tidy, finished fitSkirting, cornice and side panels are scribed to the room, and the old unit is removed and the area left clean.

Doors

Sliding or Hinged: Choosing the Right Doors

The door type changes how the room works every day, so it is worth deciding early.

Sliding doors suit narrow bedrooms, because nothing swings into the floor space and the bed can sit close to the wardrobe. They also give a clean, flat face across a wide wall. The trade-off is that you only reach part of the interior at once, since one panel always covers another.

Hinged doors open the whole width, which is better for a unit with drawers and long hanging space where you want to see everything together. They need clear room in front to swing. In a small bedroom that may rule them out, and a mix of sliding centre panels with hinged ends can be the answer.

We show you door sizes, weights and finishes at the survey and explain how each will behave in your room. Heavy mirrored panels, for example, need stronger runners than light timber-effect boards. Handle style, soft-close fittings and mirrors are all choices we can price separately so you decide where to spend.

Interiors

Planning the Inside So It Works Daily

The inside of a wardrobe decides whether it stays tidy, and it is the part most often left to chance.

We start by asking what actually has to live in the unit. Long dresses, folded knitwear, suits, shoes, suitcases and bedding all want different heights and depths. A layout that counts them first usually fits more than a standard box with one rail and two shelves.

Drawers, pull-out trays, trouser racks and tall shoe shelves are available as options, and we can add lighting if there is a power point nearby. Top boxes above the doors store luggage and seasonal bedding that would otherwise take up a spare room. Each of these can be priced as an optional extra, so you choose where the money goes.

For second homes and holiday lets we usually plan differently. Owners often want lockable sections for personal belongings and open space for guests, plus easy-clean surfaces. Telling us how the property is used lets us shape the interior to suit. That conversation shapes the doors, the locks and the cleaning routine.

Existing units

Renewing or Replacing Existing Built-In Wardrobes

Many Spanish homes already have fitted wardrobes, and the right answer is not always to rip them out.

Older armarios empotrados are often built from solid block or brick with a timber frame, and the structure can be perfectly good. If the layout works, new doors and a refreshed interior can transform the room for much less disruption than a full replacement. We explain that choice plainly at the survey.

Sometimes, though, the proportions are wrong. Shelves may be too deep, the rail too low or the space split awkwardly into small compartments. In those cases we recommend removing the lot and rebuilding to a new design, and we say so honestly at the survey.

Whichever route you take, we check the wall behind before closing it in. Stains, flaking paint or a musty smell point to damp that is better dealt with first, and where needed we can bring in our damp proofing team. Hiding the problem behind a new unit only makes it worse.

Coastal homes

Humidity, Salt Air and Ventilation

Near the sea a wardrobe is working in a harder environment than most furniture, and design can help.

Rooms that are closed up for weeks, as in many holiday apartments, can hold damp air. A wardrobe built tight against a cold external wall is the usual place for it to show as mould on clothes. We plan an air gap, ventilation slots and a back panel that lets the space breathe.

Material choice matters too. Some boards swell if they take on moisture, and cheap hinges and runners corrode in salty air. We discuss moisture-resistant boards, suitable fixings and finishes before ordering, and we are open about which options cost more. Samples help here, and we bring them to the visit.

No wardrobe can solve a wet wall. If the survey suggests a recurring damp problem, we tell you, and the fix may involve ventilation, an air-conditioning unit that keeps the room dry or treatment of the wall itself, before any new carpentry goes in. We would rather tell you that now than after the doors are on.

Project

Fitting a Wardrobe Alongside Other Work

Because we run every trade, a wardrobe can fit neatly into a bigger renovation.

If a bedroom is being redecorated, re-floored or rewired, the wardrobe should be planned with that work, not squeezed in afterwards. Socket positions, light switches and air-conditioning units all affect where a unit can go and how tall it can be. Sorting out that order early saves expensive rework later.

Our carpentry team works with our electricians, plasterers and tilers, so skirting, cornice and flooring meet the unit properly. Tiling usually goes down before the wardrobe is fitted, and we tell you the sequence so nothing catches you out on site. That sequencing is one of the things a single team does well.

We can also build under-stair storage, alcove cupboards in hallways and storage in other rooms in the same finish, so the whole home matches. Larger jobs are managed as one project, with a single contact, and written updates if you are abroad. It also means a single guarantee covers every part.

Before you hire

Questions to Ask Any Wardrobe Contractor

A little checking before you sign saves a lot of regret when the doors go on.

  • Will someone visit and measure the room properly, rather than quote from a photograph or rough dimensions?
  • Is the quotation in writing, describing the layout, door type, finishes and fitting, so you can compare it like for like?
  • Who actually makes and fits the unit, and is it the same team that surveyed the room?
  • What are the boards, runners, hinges and handles made of, and how do they cope with humidity or salt air?
  • How will the unit be scribed to uneven walls, ceilings and floors so there are no large gaps?
  • Will the old wardrobe be removed and taken away, and is that included in the price?
  • Is the wall behind the unit checked for damp before the new wardrobe is closed in?
  • What guarantee applies to the work, and what does it cover and for how long, in writing?

If a contractor is vague about any of these points, treat that as information. We are glad to answer them at the survey, put the answers in the quotation, and talk through the options in whichever language you prefer.

Questions

Fitted Wardrobes Costa Blanca — Common Questions

Can you fit a wardrobe to an uneven wall or ceiling?

Yes. Almost no wall or ceiling here is perfectly straight, so we measure at several points and scribe the side panels, cornice and skirting to the real surfaces. The aim is a tight fit with no wide gaps for dust, and we explain any limits at the survey.

How long does a fitted wardrobe take to make and install?

It depends on the size, the finish and how busy the workshop is, so we give a realistic timetable in the written quotation instead of a promise on the phone. Fitting itself is normally quicker than manufacture, and we keep you informed throughout.

Can you replace the doors but keep my existing wardrobe?

Often, yes. If the existing structure is sound and the layout works for you, new doors and a renewed interior are a good way to freshen a room. We check the structure and the wall behind it at the survey and advise honestly.

Do you offer sliding doors with mirrors?

Yes, mirrored and plain panels are both possible. Mirrors are heavy, so the runners and frame need to be specified to match. We talk through weight, safety and finish with you, and price the options separately in the quotation.

Is a fitted wardrobe a problem in a damp or coastal apartment?

It can be if it is built badly, but design helps a great deal. We leave an air gap, add ventilation, choose suitable boards and fixings, and check the wall first. If the wall is wet, we tell you it needs treating before any carpentry.

Can you fit wardrobes while I am living abroad?

Yes. Many of our customers are overseas owners. We survey while you are away or arrange a video call, agree the design by email, and send photographs and videos as the work progresses, so you can approve it without travelling.

Do I need permission for a fitted wardrobe?

Ordinary interior storage normally does not involve the town hall, but we cannot assume. In a community of owners there may be rules about work in the building. Whether anything needs checking first is something we raise on the visit, before work starts.
