Disability Living Finestrat

Ramps, handrails, safer terraces and accessible bathrooms for Finestrat's hillside villas, where the plot itself is usually the main obstacle.

With Puig Campana rising behind it, Finestrat is a town on a slope, and the villas built across that slope tend to be built in layers. The house sits on one terrace, the pool on another, the parking on a third, and the links between them are steps. Views like these are a big part of why people choose to live here, and they are also why mobility problems can feel so limiting.

In Finestrat the question is often not what to do with the bathroom, but how a person moves between the levels of the plot at all. Our first conversation is about the route: where you park, how you reach the front door, whether you can get to the terrace and the pool. Fixing that first often makes the rest much easier.

Dragon Reforms has worked across the north Costa Blanca since 1999. The quotation is free, and our work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.

The plot

Moving Between Levels on a Finestrat Hillside

Steep ground limits what can be done with a ramp, because a ramp needs length to keep its gradient gentle, and a hillside plot may not have it. We measure the height to be climbed and the space available, and explain honestly whether a ramp will work or would be too steep to be safe.

Where it will not, we look at alternatives: reshaping the existing steps to be shallower and consistent, adding landings so that you can rest, fitting a handrail on both sides of every flight and lighting the route so it is clear after dark. Sometimes a modest regrade of the ground combined with a short ramp does more than either alone.

We also look at the route from the car. A short, level, firm path from where you park to the door can be the difference between getting out of the house and staying in.

Terraces and floors

Tiles That Are Slippery and Edges That Drop Away

Terraces in Finestrat are often large and tiled in smooth ceramic, with the edge opening onto a drop. That combination is risky for anyone who is unsteady, especially after rain or when the surface is wet from the pool.

We can replace tiles with a slip-resistant finish suited to outdoors, make sure the surface falls gently away so water does not stand, and add a rail or a low wall where the edge is exposed. Inside the house, the same thinking applies to polished floors in halls and kitchens.

None of this needs to change the look of the house. Slip-resistant tiles come in a wide range of colours and textures, and we show you samples so you can feel them underfoot.

Bathrooms

A Bathroom You Can Use Without Worry

Inside, the bathroom comes next. We convert baths and high trays into level walk-in showers with a seat and rails, and fit raised or wall-hung toilets with solid supports alongside. Rails are fixed into a backing within the wall, not into the tile alone.

Many Finestrat villas have a bathroom upstairs while the bedroom is downstairs, or the other way round. If the stairs are the problem, we can plan a ground-floor bathroom that makes it unnecessary to use them.

A well-lit, well-ventilated bathroom with a floor that grips is a safer one, and those details are included from the start.

How it works

How a Disability Living Job in Finestrat Works

We visit and walk the plot with you, from the road down to the pool, then go through the house. We note the levels, measure steps and slopes, and listen to where you have difficulty. A free written quotation follows, setting out what we propose in sensible stages.

Access for materials on a steep plot takes planning, and we allow for it in the programme. We keep paths clear while we work, so you can still get about, and we check every handrail and step with you before we leave.

Questions

Disability Living Finestrat — Common Questions

Is a ramp possible on a steep Finestrat plot?

Sometimes. A ramp needs enough length to stay gentle. We measure it and tell you honestly whether it will work. If not, we can improve the steps and add landings and rails.

Can you make a villa's terrace safer?

Yes. We can fit a slip-resistant surface, correct the drainage so water does not collect, and add rails or barriers where there is a drop.

Can you provide disability living adaptations in Finestrat for a house we only use part of the year?

Yes. Many of our clients are part-time residents. We plan the work around your visits and walk through the result with you when you return.

Do the handrails have to look institutional?

No. Rails come in a range of finishes, and outdoors we can build them to suit the house. They are fixed properly into the structure so they will carry your weight.
