Finestrat’s villas sit on the slopes beneath Puig Campana, many facing south with big terraces. That means a lot of sun, and air conditioning that has to be sized for it.
A typical Finestrat villa has open living space, large windows and a terrace for views over the valley or towards the sea. Those same features let in a great deal of sun, and rooms facing south or west can heat up fast in summer. How the house is oriented often matters more than its size.
Closer to Cala de Finestrat, homes are nearer the shore, so the air is saltier and outdoor units need more care. Higher up the hillside, the concern is more about sun and exposure to wind.

Sun and orientation
In a south-facing room with wide glazing, the cooling demand is higher in the afternoon than the room’s floor area alone would suggest. We take account of the windows, shading and roof when choosing capacity, and we may recommend a larger unit for those rooms and a smaller one elsewhere.
Shutters, awnings and blinds make a real difference to how hard a unit has to work. They are not part of our work, but we are glad to mention them, because a cooler room means a quieter and more efficient system.
A unit that is too small for a sunny room will run constantly and still struggle. A well-sized one stays steadier and lasts better.
Terraces and outdoor units
On a sloping plot, the choices include a lower terrace, a retaining wall, a flat roof or a side passage. Each has pros and cons. Equipment on a terrace you use should not sit next to the dining table, while a spot close to a neighbour’s window may carry noise across.
We favour a position with good airflow and some shelter from direct sun, where it can be reached for servicing. In windy places we make sure that fixings are solid.
If you are considering more than one outdoor unit, grouping them neatly keeps the exterior tidy.
Holiday villas
Many villas here are occupied for only part of the year. A unit with wifi control lets you switch it on before arrival, so the house is comfortable when you walk in, and check it has been turned off when you leave.
That convenience relies on an internet connection near the indoor unit. We can check that before you choose a wifi model, so you do not pay for a feature you cannot use.
Before the first visit of the season, a service is worth having, especially after a long period of idleness.
How it works
We start with the villa’s layout, which rooms face the sun and where the equipment might go. A visit lets us see the terraces and the routes for pipework. If you are abroad, photographs and plans are a good starting point. The quotation is free and sets out what is included.
Work is then scheduled to suit you. We install, commission and test the system, show you the controls and leave the house clean. The work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.
Questions
We consider the room’s size, its orientation, the amount of glass and the roof above it, rather than floor area alone.
Closer to the shore it can affect outdoor units over time. Positioning, protection and regular servicing help to keep them in good order.
Many modern units have wifi control through an app. You need a dependable internet connection near the indoor unit, which we can check with you.
We plan outdoor unit positions with your terraces, bedrooms and neighbours in mind, so the sound is kept away from where you spend time.
