Finestrat rises up towards Puig Campana, and most of its villas sit on slopes with long views and long hours of sun. The slope and the sun are what shape the plastering and painting here.
Hillside plots mean retaining walls, terraces at several levels and facades that face out over open space with nothing to shade them. Those walls take direct sun and wind, and the render and paint on them age faster than on a sheltered house.
Further down towards the coast at Cala de Finestrat, apartments and villas also deal with salt air. The two environments need slightly different thinking, and it is worth deciding which applies to your property.

Sun and slope
When render gets very hot, it expands; when it cools overnight, it contracts. Over years, that movement opens fine cracks, particularly if the render was thin or applied in poor conditions. Once water finds a way in, small cracks widen.
On a south-facing hillside villa we pay particular attention to the junctions: around windows and doors, under terraces and where different materials meet. Reinforcement and flexible fillers help there, and we use them where the wall needs it.
Colour choice matters too. Very dark paint on a sun-facing wall will fade and heat up more, so we talk through options before you commit.
Terraces and levels
A villa on a slope may have a lower terrace, a main floor, an upper deck and several flights of steps. Each wall needs its own approach to access, and we plan ahead for ladders, platforms and safe working positions.
Retaining walls and planters are a common weak point, since they are in contact with soil and water. We check these carefully, and if there is moisture coming through, we recommend dealing with that before finishing the surface.
Outdoor stairs and balustrades can be rendered and painted to match the house, giving a more consistent finish across the whole plot.
Interiors
Many villas here have large windows to make the most of the views. The same light that makes the rooms attractive also shows every ripple in a wall, so a good skim coat before painting makes a visible difference.
We paint ceilings and walls in whole-house refreshes and in individual rooms, and we can match existing colours if you are updating just part of the house.
If you are planning to rent out the villa, a neutral, durable interior finish helps keep upkeep simple between guests.

Questions
Exposure to direct sun and temperature swings makes render expand and contract more, and sloping ground can add movement. Good preparation and reinforcement reduce the risk.
