Disability Living Benissa

Ramps, level showers, rails and safer floors for Benissa's fincas, old town houses and coastal villas.

Benissa offers a wide mix of homes. There is an old town of tall traditional houses, fincas set among land inland, and villas along the coast. Each was built for a different life, and each needs a different approach when walking, standing or stepping become harder than they used to be.

Fincas are the most distinctive. They often have stone thresholds, uneven yards, doors set at different levels and a bathroom that was added later and fitted in where it would go. The charm is real, and so are the hazards. The aim is to keep the character and make the house safe to use.

Dragon Reforms has worked across the north Costa Blanca since 1999. The quotation is free and our work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.

Fincas

Stone Thresholds, Uneven Yards and Added-On Bathrooms

A finca may have a stone step at every door, a yard paved with irregular slabs and a long walk from the parking area to the entrance. For someone using a stick or frame, that walk is difficult, and for a wheelchair it is impossible without work.

We can lay a firm, even path, usually with a slip-resistant finish, and build a gentle ramp over thresholds that cannot be removed. Handrails are added where there are steps, fixed into solid footings so that they will not move.

Fincas often have bathrooms that were added to the original layout and are small or awkwardly placed. If the room is too tight, we look at moving it into a space that works, or enlarging it into a neighbouring one, taking care with the old walls.

In the old town

Tall Houses on Narrow Streets

In Benissa's old town, houses rise over several floors and open straight onto the street. Internal stairs are steep and the ground floor may be the only practical one for a person with limited mobility.

The simplest way to make such a house work is to bring daily life downstairs: a bedroom and a small, fully accessible shower room on the ground floor, with a handrail up the stairs for the occasions when they are needed.

Because streets are narrow and access is limited, we plan how materials and skips will get to the door before work starts.

By the coast

Coastal Villas: Kitchens, Floors and Pool Edges

Villas near the coast tend to have larger rooms, so there is more scope for an adapted kitchen with a lowered worktop and space for a wheelchair, and for a roomy shower area. Floors here are frequently polished and cool, and very slippery when wet, so replacing them or treating them is an early priority.

If there is a pool, we can add handrails and a non-slip finish to the steps, or a ramp where space allows, and put down a safer surround.

As elsewhere, we try to keep the house looking like itself. The best adaptation is the one you stop noticing because it simply works.

How it works

How a Disability Living Job in Benissa Works

We visit, walk through the property with you and look at the way in, the floors and the bathroom. In older fincas and town houses we check how the walls are built before suggesting changes. A free written quotation follows.

We plan work in stages when that suits you, keep a clear route through the house and tidy as we go. When we finish, we go through everything with you, and adjust whatever is not quite right.

Questions

Disability Living Benissa — Common Questions

Can a finca be made wheelchair accessible?

Often to a good degree. We can lay firm paths, ramp thresholds, widen doors and rebuild a bathroom. We tell you honestly what is feasible once we have seen the house.

Do you fit level showers in old Benissa houses?

Yes. We build the shower floor with a fall to the drain, waterproof it as a sealed system and tile it with a slip-resistant finish.

Can the character of a finca be kept?

Yes. We choose materials and finishes that sit well with the house, and keep stone and traditional features wherever we safely can.

Is disability living work in Benissa possible for a ground-floor-only lifestyle?

Yes. We often create a ground-floor bedroom and accessible bathroom so you do not need to use the stairs each day.
