Disability Living Callosa d'en Sarrià

Houses in Callosa d'en Sarrià often come with steps, split levels and uneven ground. We adapt bathrooms, entrances and routes around the home, and as we work from an office in the town, the quotation is free and local.

Dragon Reforms has its office here, and a good number of the houses we are asked to help are ones we already know by sight. Village houses here rise in stages up the hillside, with steps from the road, a few more at the door and a staircase inside.

Fincas on the terraces outside town add further challenges: gravel tracks, garden steps and long walks from the parking space to the front door. Medlar groves and terraces are lovely to look at, but they are not easy to cross with a walking frame or a wheelchair.

We look at the whole route, from where a car or taxi stops to the bed and bathroom. The aim is that a person can move about the house safely and independently, and that carers and visitors can do likewise.

Steps and slopes

Getting In and Out of a Hillside House

Before anything inside the house, we look at the approach. Uneven steps, loose paving and no handrail are the usual causes of falls. Reforming a run of steps with equal treads, a landing and a rail on each side is often the most valuable change.

A ramp suits a slope that is gentle enough, and a ramp that is too steep is worse than none. We tell you honestly when the gradient will not work and suggest safer steps with good lighting instead. Rails should be sturdy enough to bear weight, so we fix them into the structure rather than into loose rendering.

Where the plot is large, we might propose a short level path from the nearest parking point. It need not be elaborate, but it should be firm, drain well and be non-slip when wet. Gravel or loose stone paths are poor for walking aids, so firm surfaces matter.

Inside

Bringing the Essentials onto One Level

Many older village houses keep bedrooms upstairs and the main living space below. If stairs are becoming a risk, moving a bedroom to the ground floor beside an accessible shower room can be simpler and cheaper than altering the stairs themselves.

That usually involves several trades: plumbing for the shower, tiling, electrics for light and sockets, and carpentry for doors. Having one team manage them avoids the confusion of different people working to different plans. Plumbing and drainage in an old house can hide surprises, so a survey is worth the time.

Thick stone walls limit what can be widened. We check the wall type and what it carries before suggesting a new opening, and we tell you if the cost or the risk is not worth it. Plans are drawn simply.

Family and carers

Helping Older Relatives to Stay in Their Own Home

Where relatives live close by and look in regularly, an older parent who starts to struggle can often stay put if the house is adapted, and everyone carries on as before for longer. A rail by the front door and at each change of level is often the first change we suggest.

A bathroom that two people can use, with room for a helper beside the shower and a seat that folds away, is a common request. We also fit rails by the toilet, near the bed and at thresholds where people tend to trip.

If family members live abroad, we are happy to join a video call to talk through the plan with everyone, then send photographs as each stage is finished. It makes decisions easier for everyone when no one has to guess at measurements or sizes.

Questions

Disability Living Callosa d'en Sarrià — Common Questions

Can you add handrails to the steps outside my Callosa d'en Sarrià house?

Yes. We fix rails securely to the steps or the adjoining wall, even out the treads where needed and improve lighting and surface grip, depending on how the steps are built. Good lighting at night is just as important as the rail itself.

Is a ramp possible on a sloping finca plot?

Sometimes. It depends on the length of the slope and the space available. If a safe gradient is not possible, we propose safer steps, a level path or a different entrance. We prefer to be honest about steep ground.

Can a ground-floor bedroom and shower room be created in a village house?

In many houses, yes. We look at the layout, the plumbing and the walls, and plan the bedroom and shower room together so that they are close to one another. We often reuse the existing water supply and drainage to keep the work simple.

Do you help with disability living work for someone elsewhere in Callosa d'en Sarrià?

Yes. We can visit the house, speak to the person and their family, and agree the plan remotely with relatives who live in another country. One call with the family usually settles the plan. Yes.
