Disability Living Villajoyosa

Steep old streets, tall narrow houses and apartments by the sea each bring their own obstacles. We adapt bathrooms, entrances and kitchens in Villajoyosa homes so people can stay put, with a free quotation.

Villajoyosa is a town where many people have lived for decades, and where plenty of them want to stay. The houses they live in were built for younger legs. Tall townhouses have steep internal stairs, front doors open straight onto the street, and bathrooms squeeze in wherever they could.

The seafront flats are different. Some have lifts, some do not, and balconies often have a raised sill. Neither kind of home was designed with a wheelchair, a walking frame or a carer in mind, but both can usually be adapted in ways that make daily life safer without changing how the place looks.

We start by listening to what has become difficult. Our firm has renovated homes along this coast since 1999, and one team co-ordinates the plumbing, tiling, electrics and carpentry so that you deal with one firm. Small jobs are welcome as well as large ones.

Old town

Adapting a Tall, Narrow Old-Town House

In a townhouse the bedroom and bathroom are often upstairs, and the stairs are steep and turning. Where that is no longer safe, the practical answer is often to bring a bedroom and shower room to the ground floor, even if that means giving up a dining room or storage space.

Where the stairs stay in use, we fit continuous handrails on both sides if the width allows, add lighting and improve the tread surfaces. We do not pretend every staircase can be made wheelchair friendly. Some cannot, and we will say so after the survey.

Doorways in thick walls can sometimes be widened, but that depends on what is above them. We check what is structural before promising anything. A conversation with the family, ideally with the person who lives there, is the best way to decide what is worth doing.

Seafront flats

Bathrooms and Balconies in Flats by the Sea

A typical flat bathroom has a bath or a deep tray and slippery tiles. Replacing it with a level walk-in shower, a fold-down seat and secure rails often changes how the whole flat works for someone with reduced mobility. We also check that the shower drain, waterproofing and tiling are done to a sound standard.

The balcony can become a barrier when its door has a high sill. Lowering the threshold, or adding a neat ramp, lets you get outside, and a slip-resistant surface helps where sea air leaves the floor damp. It is a small job that lets people enjoy a little sea air again.

In a block, noise and access are part of the plan. We agree working hours, protect the lift and common areas and ask the administrator about anything that might affect neighbours. A short note to the neighbours before noisy work starts is part of our routine.

Kitchens and Everyday Routines at Home

A kitchen that works for someone sitting down looks different from a standard one. Part of the worktop is lowered with space under it, drawers replace low cupboards, and the hob and sink are put where they can be reached comfortably.

For people who stand but tire easily, the answer may be lighter: moving frequently used items to waist height and leaving clear surface beside the hob. We discuss what you actually do in the kitchen before drawing anything. Seating should be at a height that suits, so someone can prepare food without standing for long.

Not every home needs a rebuild. In a compact flat, one or two well-chosen changes often make more difference than a full refit, and we say so if that is the honest advice. A full kitchen change is only recommended when it will clearly improve daily life.

How it works

How a Disability Living Job Job in Villajoyosa Works

We visit the home, walk the route you take each day and measure. In an old-town house we look at stairs, doorways and the bathroom; in a flat, at the entrance, the lift and the shower. A written quotation follows, listing the work in the order we recommend.

Our team does the work and keeps your routes clear where we can. At the end we go through each feature with you and adjust whatever does not feel right. The finished work is guaranteed, and your quotation explains what the guarantee includes.

Questions

Disability Living Villajoyosa — Common Questions

Can a bath in my Villajoyosa flat become a walk-in shower?

In most cases, yes. We remove the bath, form a level floor with a fall to the drain, waterproof and tile it, and add a seat and rails positioned for you. The result is stable, drains well and is far safer to step into.

Can you adapt a steep old-town house in Villajoyosa?

Often, though not every house can be made fully wheelchair accessible. We look at stairs, doorways and floors, then suggest what is realistic, including moving a bedroom and bathroom downstairs. We will not promise what the building cannot take.

Do you fit grab rails that are safe near the sea?

Yes. We choose fittings suited to damp coastal bathrooms and fix them into solid backing, not just tile, so they stay secure. We also check the wall for solid support. Fixing is always into solid wall.

I live abroad but my parent lives in Villajoyosa. Can you arrange this?

Yes. We can talk through the plan by video call with you and your parent, agree the quotation remotely and send photographs as the work is completed. Your parent can say what matters most to them directly.
