Pergolas & Outdoor Living Villajoyosa

People live in La Vila Joiosa all year, so outdoor space is used in every season. We build shade, seating and lighting for rooftops in the old streets, flats on the front and villas inland.

This is a working town with a proper life outside the holiday weeks, and its homes are used accordingly. A terrace here is where the washing dries, where the family eats on a mild February afternoon and where the evening is spent in August. Outdoor structures need to earn their place every month.

Houses in the old streets are tall and narrow, with a roof terrace as the only open air. Flats near the sea have balconies looking at the coloured facades. On the urbanisations inland, villas have gardens, pools and room for more ambitious work. Each calls for a different kind of structure.

A year-round household needs more than shade. Wind protection in winter, lighting for early evenings, a floor that dries quickly and a roof that deals with the occasional heavy downpour all belong in the plan. We design for all four seasons, not just for a postcard summer.

Old Streets

Using a rooftop in a narrow townhouse

A rooftop terrace on a tall, narrow house is often the best space it has, with air, light and sometimes a view of the water. It is also reached by stairs that make delivery awkward, so we prepare light sections in the workshop and assemble them upstairs.

Before building we examine the roof itself. Many were adapted over decades, with waterproofing laid at different times. Fixing posts through a tired membrane invites leaks into the rooms below, so we assess it first and recommend renewal where it is needed.

Light matters in a dense street. A slatted cover that keeps off the sun but lets daylight through feels far better than a solid roof, and a modest height keeps the structure from looming over neighbouring terraces and the lane below.

Seafront

Balconies and terraces facing the coloured facades

Flats along the front look at one of the most photographed seafronts on this coast, and owners want shade without hiding it. Awning-style covers or slim frames fit most easily, and they must satisfy the community, which cares about how the building looks from the street, from the beach and from the flats on either side.

Anything new here may need the community's blessing, and possibly a request to the council offices. We give an opinion at the visit and help you assemble what to ask with, including sizes, colours and fixings, so the committee has a clear picture to approve.

Spray and salt reach the balconies, so metal parts are chosen for the setting and finishes are applied thoroughly. We keep timber off wet floors, and we advise on easy cleaning, because a quick rinse does more for longevity than any product.

Inland Villas

Gardens, pools and covered living behind the town

On the urbanisations behind the town, villas have space for a real outdoor room: a pergola linked to the kitchen, decking beside the pool, steps through the garden and lights along the path. Many owners live here all year, and want it comfortable in winter too.

For colder months, we can include side screens, a more solid roof section over the dining area, or a place for a heater with a safe power supply. These additions are easiest to plan at the start, rather than retrofitted onto a finished frame.

We build pool surrounds and the shaded areas beside them, but not the pool itself. Paving beside water should grip when wet, so we propose non-slip finishes and detail the edges where timber meets stone to keep water moving away from the frame.

How it works

How a Pergolas & Outdoor Living Job in Villajoyosa Works

We visit at a time that suits you, look at the rooftop, balcony or garden and ask how you use it through the year. For old houses we check the roof and stairs, and for flats we note the community's likely views.

A written quotation follows, describing structure, finish, any roof or floor work, and electrics. Timber is made in our workshop, then fitted in short visits to limit disruption. If you split your time between Spain and elsewhere, we agree the details by video call.

Questions

Pergolas & Outdoor Living Villajoyosa — Common Questions

Can I build a pergola on my old town house roof in Villajoyosa?

Often, if the roof structure and waterproofing can take it. We inspect both, plan how materials get upstairs, and tell you whether the design is the sort of thing the town hall asks to approve.

What shade suits a seafront balcony here?

Slim frames, awning-style covers or louvres usually work best, since they respect the building's appearance and can be closed against wind. Your community may have rules about the facade, so we check those with you early on.

Can a pergola be used comfortably in winter in Villajoyosa?

With planning, yes. Side screens, a partly solid roof and a safe power point for a heater all extend the season. We discuss how you live outdoors in cooler months and design the structure around that routine.

Do you also renew the roof terrace floor?

Yes. Where waterproofing or paving is worn, our terrace renovation team can renew it first, so the new structure stands on a sound surface and the rooms below stay dry, which is far easier to arrange before posts are fixed.
