Pergolas & Outdoor Living Benidorm

In a town of tower blocks, the terrace is the garden. We design shade, flooring and lighting for balconies and roof terraces at height, where wind, neighbours and community rules shape every decision.

Benidorm homes rarely come with a plot of land. The outdoor space is a balcony, a wraparound terrace or a penthouse roof, perhaps twenty storeys above the street, and it carries the whole job of providing fresh air, a place to eat and somewhere to sit with a drink after dark.

Height changes the engineering. Wind rises with every floor, so a light canopy that behaves well in a garden can become a hazard on a high terrace. Anything we build there has to be braced, fixed into solid structure and sized to resist gusts, and sometimes the honest advice is to choose something smaller.

Because neighbours sit directly above, below and beside you, the work must also respect them. We plan access, noise and falling debris carefully, and explain the process to you in writing, so a community president has something clear to read before any lifting equipment is called.

Wind at Height

Building a shade structure twenty floors up

Any roof you put over a high terrace becomes a surface the wind can lift or push. Solid coverings are the most demanding, and we are cautious with them. Slatted tops, opening louvres or fabric that can be retracted often make more sense on tall buildings, because they let gusts pass through or can be stowed.

The frame must go into structure that can bear it. Render and tile finishes are not strong enough, so we locate beams, slabs and upstands, then fix through to them. If the slab itself is doubtful, or if the terrace has already shown leaks, we say so before proposing anything new on top.

We also think about what happens in storms. Cushions, loose slats and lightweight furniture become projectiles in bad weather, so the design includes fixed fittings and, where useful, a simple routine for closing the structure when strong wind is forecast.

Communities

Working with your block, not against it

Most Benidorm apartments belong to a community of owners, and the outside of the building usually counts as shared appearance. A new structure may need approval from your community, and possibly consent from the town hall. Whether your design looks likely to raise either question is something we flag when we survey the terrace.

Practical matters get settled in advance too: which lift or stairs the materials travel in, when the building is quietest, how to protect common areas and where offcuts are taken. Courteous, tidy work is the best way to keep neighbours on side, and it keeps the project moving.

If the community prefers a particular colour or style, we can build to that. Often a light, slim frame in a muted finish is accepted more readily than something bulky, and it also suits a terrace where space is already tight.

Flat Roofs

Penthouse terraces, flooring and what lies underneath

A penthouse roof terrace is attractive but unforgiving. Beneath the floor sits a waterproof layer, and anything fixed through it risks a leak that ends up in the flat below. Where posts must be anchored, we detail the connection so the membrane stays sealed, and we recommend a check of the waterproofing before building.

Decking and paving need a fall so water runs away, and they need to cope with the heat of a south-facing slab. Timber decking is warm underfoot and quick to lay, while porcelain paving is cooler and tolerates spills. Our terrace specialists can renew the waterproofing first if that proves necessary.

Lighting and power are worth planning now. Low-level lights along an upstand and a weatherproof socket for a fan or lamp make the roof usable until late, and cable routes are far simpler to arrange before a new floor is laid.

How it works

How a Pergolas & Outdoor Living Job in Benidorm Works

A Benidorm job starts with a visit to the terrace. We measure, photograph the structure, check the slab and the edge, and talk through what the space is for. If you are abroad, send photos and a short video, and we will arrange a call to cover the rest.

After that you receive a written quotation describing the structure, finishes, access arrangements and the work to the floor or waterproofing. We build the frame in our workshop where we can, so less noise and mess reaches the building, and we update you as each stage is completed.

Questions

Pergolas & Outdoor Living Benidorm — Common Questions

Can I put a pergola on my Benidorm apartment terrace?

Frequently, once we know the slab and walls are strong enough, the wind exposure is manageable and your neighbours in the block are content. We check these at the survey, tell you whether a town hall licence is likely to be needed, and design to suit the building.

Is a solid roof suitable on a high-rise terrace in Benidorm?

Usually it is the hardest option, because wind pushes against it strongly. Louvres, slatted tops and retractable fabric tend to behave better. We explain the trade-offs on site and will not propose a design we think is unsafe.

Will fixing a frame to the roof cause leaks?

Not if it is detailed properly. Posts are anchored into structure and the waterproofing is made good around them. If the existing membrane is already tired, we recommend renewing it first, since that is easier before a structure stands on it.

How do you get materials up to a high floor?

Pieces are made to fit the lift or stairs, or lifted by an agreed method, and we arrange access with the community in advance. Much of the timber is prepared in the workshop, so little cutting happens at the property.
