Disability Living Albir

Albir homes are often a place for family to visit, and a house that suits a guest with limited mobility makes holidays possible. We adapt bathrooms, steps and terraces in Albir, with a free quotation.

A lot of Albir's flats and villas are second homes, and part of their purpose is to host relatives. When a parent, a partner or a friend can no longer manage stairs or a high bath, the holiday is often the first thing to go. Adapting the property gives that back.

The area gives both easy and difficult ground. Along the promenade and the seafront everything is flat and many flats have lifts, though not all. Up the hillside towards the Sierra Helada the villas have steep drives, terraces on several levels and steps between them.

We plan around the person and the place. We have been working on this coast since 1999, and we can take on small jobs such as rails as well as complete bathroom conversions. Visitors and owners alike benefit from an honest view.

Flats

A Holiday Flat That Works for a Less Mobile Guest

In a flat the bathroom is where adaptation matters most. A bath with a shower over it is hard to climb into at any age, and a level shower with a seat and two rails makes a visit realistic. It also helps owners who are getting older themselves.

We think about the whole stay: a door wide enough to pass through, a bed at a comfortable height and floors that are not slick when someone comes in from the beach. Small changes sometimes do more than structural ones.

If you let the flat, adaptations can also widen your market. We keep the finishes neat and attractive so that the bathroom looks like a good bathroom rather than a clinical one. Neutral tiles and white fittings keep it feeling like part of the home.

Villas on slopes

Steps, Drives and Terraces on a Hillside Plot

The drive of a hillside villa may be steep enough to make walking up from the road a chore. Handrails along it, a resting landing and a non-slip surface improve it enormously, and good lighting helps after dark. Gravel, loose edges or moss on a slope all contribute, so we check the surface as well as the gradient.

Between terrace levels, steps often have different heights and no rail. We rebuild or adjust them so that every tread is the same and a rail is on each side where there is room. Different heights between the terrace levels are among the commonest causes of stumbles.

A ramp can be added where there is space and the slope allows. Where it does not, we say so, and look for an alternative such as a better entrance route or a different door for step-free access. It is honest advice.

Pool access

Safer Access to an Existing Pool

We do not build swimming pools, but we can make an existing one easier to use. Handrails by the steps, a slip-resistant finish on the surround and a gentle approach from the terrace help many people get into the water safely. A rail at the pool steps is a small job with a big effect on confidence.

Where there is room and the pool allows it, a short ramped entry may be possible. We assess this individually, because the shape and depth of the pool and its surround decide what is sensible. Each pool differs, so the advice is specific to yours.

Water is one of the pleasures of a house like this, and for some people it is also the best exercise. Making the surround safe is a modest job with a large benefit. Even a short session in the water can lift mood and flexibility, so many owners say the work was worth it.

How it works

How a Disability Living Job Job in Albir Works

We visit, measure and talk to the people who will use the home. For a flat we study the entrance, lift and bathroom; for a villa we walk from road to terrace and pool. A free written quotation follows, with the work in a sensible order.

Our people do the work, keep routes usable where possible and then talk you through each adaptation. Guarantee terms for the work are listed in the quotation, and relatives overseas receive photographs and updates. We keep it simple. Questions are welcome throughout.

Questions

Disability Living Albir — Common Questions

Can you turn the bath in my Albir apartment into a walk-in shower?

Usually, yes. The bath comes out and a waterproof, level floor is built with a gentle fall towards the drain, then tiled. A seat and rails are placed to suit the person using it. The seat can be fixed or fold away.

Can rails be fitted around a pool in Albir?

Yes, around an existing pool. We fit handrails at the steps, improve the surround surface and, where practical, form a gentle approach. We do not build pools. Safety around water is why we are careful about finishes.

My Albir villa has a steep drive. What can be done?

Depending on the slope, we can fit handrails, add a landing, lay a non-slip surface and improve lighting. A ramp is only suggested where a safe gradient is possible. A resting landing makes a long drive easier to manage.

Can you arrange the work while my family is away from Albir?

Yes. The plan can be agreed by video call, a person you nominate can give us access, and photographs of each stage reach you until everything is finished and tested. Please send photos of the steps, drive and bathroom.
