Polop is a small inland village, and its older houses have the thick walls, odd sizes and arched doorways that make window and door work a matter of careful measuring rather than catalogue ordering.
A village house may have been altered several times over a century or more. Walls settle, lintels sag slightly, and an opening that looks square rarely is. That is not a problem, but it means frames need to be made for the actual hole.
Around the village are hillside villas with their own needs: sun on terraces, long drives and homes that are quiet for part of the year.

Fitting New Frames Into Old Polop Walls
Older walls may be thick stone or mixed rubble, and fixings must go into something solid. We check the condition of the opening and agree how it will be repaired before the new frame goes in.
Because sizes vary, frames are made to measure. We measure twice, record the differences between the top, middle and bottom of each opening, and order accordingly.
The result should look right as well as work properly, so we discuss colour, glazing bars and the way the frame sits in the reveal.
Replacing timber
Old Wooden Windows and Doors: Keep or Replace?
Some old timber frames are worth keeping. If the wood is sound, they can be repaired, sealed and re-hung. If they are rotten, warped or impossible to close, replacement is more honest than another coat of paint.
Modern frames can echo the look of traditional ones, so the character of the house is kept while draughts and leaks are not.

Hills and quiet lanes
Villa Glazing and Security Around Polop
A hillside villa generally has a terrace, with doors that are used every day. Smooth, well-sealed sliding or hinged doors make that terrace a pleasure to use.
Homes at the edge of the village or on quiet roads may stand empty for some of the year. Solid doors, firm locking and shutters make the house less of a target.
