Bathroom Renovations Altea

Altea combines a hillside old town with villas along the coast, and the bathrooms in each ask for quite different thinking.

The old town of Altea climbs a hillside, with narrow streets, stairs and houses that have been altered many times over the years. Bathrooms in these homes are often tucked into awkward corners, with thick walls, uneven floors and pipework that follows the history of the building rather than a plan. Around the town and along the coast, villas offer more space but come with their own demands, particularly around outdoor views, natural light and finishes that suit the setting.

That mix means no two Altea bathrooms are quite alike. In an old house, the first job is to understand what is behind the walls and how the drainage runs. In a villa, the first job is to decide what the room should feel like, then work backwards to the materials and the layout.

Dragon Reforms has worked in the north Costa Blanca since 1999. We design, strip out, build and finish bathrooms with our own trades, and we keep owners who live abroad informed with calls and photographs.

Character homes

Bathrooms in Altea’s Old Town Houses

In an older house, stone and plaster walls can be a feature rather than something to hide. Warm limestone tones, textured plaster and exposed timber sit naturally together, and a bathroom designed around them feels part of the house instead of an add-on. A vanity unit in natural wood with a stone-style basin is a simple way to get there.

Working in a hillside old town takes planning. Access can be narrow, so materials are brought in carefully and large items such as shower screens or porcelain slabs need to be measured against stairways before they are ordered. We think through the route as well as the room.

Floors and walls in older houses are seldom level. Rather than hiding that with thick adhesive, we prepare the surfaces first, so the finished tiling and any frameless glass sit correctly.

Villas

Coastal Villa Bathrooms With a Considered Design

For villas around Altea, a bathroom is often a chance to create something that feels like a retreat. A generous walk-in shower, a freestanding or built-in bath, and a floating vanity with good lighting are common requests. We help owners decide where to spend and where to keep things simple.

Curved and arched details are popular in Mediterranean bathrooms, and they are achievable with the right preparation. A shower niche, a recessed alcove or an arched opening in a stone-effect wall adds shape to a room without clutter.

Since the sea air and humidity are part of life here, ventilation and waterproofing matter. We plan extraction and tanking as part of the design, not as an afterthought.

One team

Plumbing, Electrics and Finishing Handled Together

A bathroom renovation involves plumbers, electricians, tilers, plasterers, painters and sometimes a carpenter. Rather than asking you to find and coordinate each, we run them on a single programme, so the sequence is right and nothing waits on a trade that has not arrived.

If the property is also due other work, such as new windows, a kitchen or damp treatment, it can often be planned alongside the bathroom.

Where underfloor heating or a heated towel rail is wanted, we fit it during the build, when the floor is open and the wiring is easy to place.

Questions

Bathroom Renovations Altea — Common Questions

Can you renovate a bathroom in an old house in Altea?

Yes. We often work in older homes, where we open up the room, check the plumbing and drainage, and prepare the walls and floors before any new finishes go on.

What styles suit a bathroom renovation in Altea?

Warm stone-effect finishes, natural wood and soft white plaster are popular and suit both old town houses and villas. We can also do a cleaner contemporary look if you prefer.

Do you handle the plumbing and electrics yourselves?

Yes. Plumbing, electrics, tiling, plastering and painting are all done by our own team, coordinated as one job.

Do you work with owners who are not in Spain full time?

Yes. We speak English and Spanish and keep clients up to date by phone and photographs while the work is carried out.
