Expert Electricians in Finestrat

Published 8 July 2026 · Dragon Reforms

Electrical work in a home needs to be done carefully and recorded properly. Here is what the main jobs involve and what to expect when you hire electricians in Finestrat.

Many Finestrat homes have been extended, converted or updated more than once. Sockets have been added where they were needed, air conditioning has been put in, and the original fuse board has been asked to cope with far more than it was designed for.

That history is why a sensible electrical job starts with looking at what is already there. Below we describe the work we are most often asked about, from rewires to lighting, and what we think is worth deciding before anyone picks up a tool.

Rewires

When a Home Needs Rewiring

Signs that wiring is reaching the end of its life include fuses or trips that go regularly, switches that feel hot, cables with brittle or cracked sheathing, and sockets that do not hold a plug firmly. In an older home the installation may also be a patchwork of additions with no clear record of what is on which circuit.

A rewire is a disruptive job, so we plan it with the rest of any renovation where we can. Cable routes are decided with the layout of rooms in mind, and chasing into walls is coordinated with plastering and painting. Where only part of a property needs attention, a partial rewire may be enough, and we will say so after seeing the house.

Whichever route you take, electrical work should be done by a competent installer and properly certified. Ask for that to be stated in any quotation you receive, ours included.

Consumer units

Upgrading the Fuse Board

The consumer unit, or fuse board, is the heart of the installation. It divides the supply into circuits and holds the protective devices that cut power when something goes wrong. An old or overloaded board is one of the most common reasons for repeated tripping.

Upgrading it is often a sensible step before adding load. If you are planning a new kitchen, a pool pump or several air conditioning units, the board has to be able to supply them safely. We check the existing arrangement, explain what we would change, and label the circuits clearly so that anyone can understand them afterwards.

This is also a good moment to look at whether circuits are sensibly divided. Having lighting, sockets and heavy appliances on separate circuits makes faults easier to isolate and avoids one problem taking out the whole house.

Lighting and sockets

Lighting, Sockets and Dedicated Circuits

Good lighting is planned around how a room is used, not just where the ceiling happens to have a fitting. In kitchens we think about work surfaces, in living rooms about layers of light that can be dimmed, and on terraces about fittings that cope with weather. Switch positions matter as much as the lights themselves.

Extra sockets are usually the most welcome upgrade. Rather than relying on extension leads, it is better to put points where furniture, appliances and chargers will actually be. In a renovation these can be built into the walls from the start.

Air conditioning should have its own dedicated circuit, sized to suit the unit. Sharing a circuit with other loads leads to tripping in the hottest weeks, exactly when you need the cooling. We run the cable, fit the protection and leave the installation ready for the unit.

Fault finding

Tracing Faults Without Guesswork

Intermittent faults are frustrating: a light that flickers, a trip that happens only after rain, a socket that works on some days. Tracing them means working methodically, isolating circuits one at a time and testing, not simply replacing parts until the problem goes away.

Outdoor and pool-side circuits are a frequent source of trouble because moisture finds its way into junctions. If a trip occurs when it rains or when the pool pump starts, tell us, as it narrows the search considerably.

After a fault is found and fixed, we explain what caused it and whether anything else on the installation deserves attention. If your problem is not covered here, get in touch and we will tell you what we can do.

Questions

Expert Electricians in Finestrat — Common Questions

Do you work throughout Finestrat?

Yes. We cover Finestrat, including the hillside villas and the areas near Cala de Finestrat, and neighbouring towns on the north Costa Blanca.

How do I know if my fuse board needs replacing?

Frequent tripping, an old or damaged board, or plans to add heavy appliances are common reasons. We can inspect the board and tell you what we would recommend.

Can you install a circuit for my air conditioning?

Yes. We install dedicated circuits sized for the unit, with the appropriate protection, ready for the air conditioning to be connected.

Can electrical work be combined with a renovation?

Yes. As a renovation firm we coordinate wiring with building, plastering and decorating, so there is less rework and one quotation to manage.

Is the quotation free?

Yes. The quotation is free and our work is guaranteed, with the scope set out in the quotation.
